Calls with no city written down are left off the chart entirely — they are missing data rather than a place. Smaller towns and unincorporated areas outside the largest eight are folded into “Other”, so the bars account for every call that did name one.

These details are only recorded when a caller offers them, and most of the time they are not. Calls where nothing was written down are left off the chart rather than drawn as a bar of their own; each chart says how much of the range it covers, and shares out only the calls that did answer.
